"We all acknowledge that the roads are in a dreadful mess not least because of very wet weather but also a historic lack of funding", says Cllr Roy Galley who is seeking re-election to East Sussex County Council for Maresfield & Buxted division.
"Despite that, I have fought for improvements in our area and have continued to be persistent on your behalf. Amongst others, the road north of Danehill has been resurfaced well.
"There have also been many drainage problems and some resolved but I’m reluctant to claim success because drainage can readily deteriorate with heavy rain especially if we are not on top of clearing drains.
"We’ve had small successes in resurfacing Maresfield High St and School Hill and at last the bridge at Underhill was completed this year. It is not to everyone’s taste but we have a strong and sturdy bridge.
"Resurfacing the A22 from Pippingford to Wych Cross is in the road programme for 2026 or 2027
Future Roads
"The county has Government permission to borrow £70million to cover its funding gap. It needs £56m for care services. "I shall be campaigning for an additional £10 million to be spent on roads.
"We also require national funding and I want to see a National Emergency Road Refurbishment Fund", adds Roy who seeks support on 7 May from residents in Buxted, Chelwood Gate, Danehill, Fairwarp, Fletching, High Hurstwood, Isfield, Maresfield, Nutley, Piltdown and surrounding areas.
