East Grinstead's MP, Mims Davies, has today visited Chequer Mead Car Park to talk about increased parking charges being enforced on the town.
"The Lib Dem-led Mid Sussex Council has delivered a crushing blow to the vibrancy of our towns and villages by imposing evening, Sunday and Bank Holidays charges", said the MP.
The local Conservative councillors have been working with Mims to ensure that community views are heard about the hefty and unfair increase to East Grinstead parking charges which were callously voted through by Lib- Dem, Green and Independent groups at Mid Sussex District Council, most of whom do not represent the town.
Conservatives unanimously opposed the changes of these parking charges on Sundays, evenings and Bank Holidays.
Mims has also launched an online survey in order to gather views from residents on these parking charges, which can be found here: Car Parking Charges Survey | Mims Davies
Mims will be sharing these views in her meeting on Monday with the council's Chief Executive.
Mims Davies MP said:
I've just been meeting Dean and Sarah on the impact of these parking charges here in East Grinstead.
As we know, Sundays, Bank Holidays, and evenings charges have come in and we know it affects people everyone here including the theatre where people are volunteering to support this theatre in thriving.
I'm meeting the Chief Executive of the Council on Monday regarding these charges; the affect on the high street, footfall, and sharing the views of residents who have emailed, called, completed my online survey sharing their views.
I was thrilled to join the the theatre recently at the volunteers fair and am excited to join them for some of their brilliant upcoming shows, including Cinderella Panto at the end of the year! Following conversations with Cllr Kathryn Hall there may be a pass for volunteers which I will follow up.
I will keep making these arguments on behalf of residents and update you once I know more.
