A road improvement scheme, proposed by a leading Conservative county councillor, offers an improved pedestrian walkway at a key site in East Grinstead. The plans have now been through public consultation and is on course for delivery next May.
"I have been pushing for an improved crossing area and road safety improvements on De La Warr Rd for the last 18 months and I am pleased to say the proposals for an upgrade in this area are now planned to proceed", says Cllr Jacquie Russell
The scheme will create a permanent Traffic Regulation Order to prohibit waiting at any time (introduce double yellow lines) on both sides of De La Warr Road in East Grinstead from a point 25m east of its junction with Church Lane, westwards for some 95metres. In addition, two raised traffic calming features will be installed on De La Warr Road in East Grinstead.
These features will be full width speed tables, with one located immediately east of its junction with Church Lane, and the other located on the bend in the road, west of its junction with Church Lane. Both features will be appx 65mm high and constructed in black McAdam.
Converting the grass verge into a walkway down from Chequer Mead car park will make it easier to negotiate, particularly for those with mobility issues/buggies/wheelchairs.
