"The current lack of water in East Grinstead, Nutley, Chelwood Gate and Danehill is quite unacceptable.

My current understanding is that there have been supply failures from the Wych Cross and Barcombe reservoirs which has meant that adequate water treatment was not possible. The position was exacerbated by burst mains in the aftermath of the icy weather relating to storm Goretti which of course had much less effect here than elsewhere in the country,

There is some hope that supplies will return by Tuesday and I have found the delivery of water to premises in our villages has worked quite well although there was chaos at the initial water station in East Grinstead.

Mims Davies M.P. has been attending meetings with the government Minister and South East Water. We are trying to get  a water station in one of our villages so that people don’t have to go into East Grinstead.

Whilst one can castigate South East Water, they are facing problems with excessive house building and further consumption rises as more people work from home.

There are, of course, grumblings as is to be expected about South East Water’s owners. My understanding is, however, that they have invested  a lot and not taken any dividend for several years.

Everyone is working to resolve the position as soon as possible."
