EG highways scheme

Major improvements to pedestrian access in part of East Grinstead will commence shortly at the behest of Conservative county councillor Jacquie Russell.

Enabling works will commence early next month (February 10th to 14th) to start the construction of the Community Highways Scheme that Cllr Russell submitted with community support two years ago and which went through public consultation last year.

"The overall approved scheme will see the removal of the steps from Chequer Mead car park replaced with a footway making it easier for those with mobility issues or families with buggies etc, coupled with traffic calming measures on De La Warr Road", explains Cllr Russell. "It will be a significant improvement on the existing situation, as shown in the drawing.

Phase Two, the main build-out, is due to commence in early summer, after the nesting season. Permits are in place but work is weather dependent as always.
