Celebrations as years of negotiating by Conservative councillor Jacquie Russell have paid off and West Sussex County Council has agreed to adopt the railway bridges over St Margaret's Loop in East Grinstead.
"This frees up East Grinstead Town Council to develop their walking/cycling woodland walkway that will link the East to West of the town", explains a delighted Cllr Russell.
The former railway line connects the previous high-level (now the Worth Way) and low-level railway lines.
"The town council can now proceed with their plans for a walking/cycling woodland walkway that will link the East to West of the town", adds Cllr Russell.
The legal transfer process is now underway for WSCC to take ownership of the two road bridges which cross the loop.
A full project costing along with a detailed business case will now be undertaken before deciding how best to proceed with the scheme.
The matter will be added to the next Full Council agenda at County Hall while a highl-level feasibility study of the scheme will be made to consider the potential for achieving necessary planning permission.
