In the 2023 Wealden District Council elections, Green Party candidates campaigned to DECREASE housing numbers, explains Claire Dowling the Conservative candidate for Uckfield North.
"Yet the current Green/Liberal Democrat/Labour administration running our district council has taken a different approach, including supporting AN INCREASE in housing numbers such as the proposed massive Owlsbury development", says Claire who has worked hard as the area's county councillor.
"Your local Liberal Democrat and Labour councillors are both members of the Wealden District Council Cabinet.
"They are also both members of and vote on the Major Planning Committee for housing developments– is this fair?
"In my view this raises important questions about whether our area is receiving the representation it needs.
"I do not want to see our Sussex countryside lost to overdevelopment," adds Claire.
Uckfield is being strangled by developments that its infrastructure cannot support.
"In Uckfield North, I have stood with residents in objecting to the Downlands development and I am concerned about the wider impact of overdevelopment across Wealden District, says Claire.
"I am firmly committed to protecting our countryside and ensuring that development is sustainable, proportionate and supported by appropriate infrastructure."
