The opposition Conservative group at Mid Sussex District Council has secured a major victory for residents, especially those in East Grinstead. They have been successful in obtaining removal of evening parking charges which were imposed by the ruling Liberal Democrats.
Proposed by Conservative group leader, Cllr Gary Marsh, and seconded by East Grinstead's Jacquie Russell, it proposed that evening car park charging in all MSDC owned car parks in EG between 6pm & 8pm in East Grinstead be dropped.
It was the Conservative's initial amendment at last night's Budget Debate, that then forced a counter amendment from the ruling administration to extend the removal of evening car park charging for the residents of Haywards Heath and Burgess Hill too.
"Overall, it was a fiery debate but a huge win for common sense and for Mid Sussex residents all round, " says Cllr Russell.
East Grinstead's Conservative MP, Mims Davies, said of the news: "Brilliant work from Cllr Jacquie Russell and group leader Cllr Gary Marsh. This is fantastic news for the district, residents, businesses, and tourism."
