Davies MP comments on David Hinton's Resignation from South East Water

On the news that David Hinton is to quit his role as Chief Executive of troubled South-East Water, Mims Davies MP said:

“I said last week it was one down, but one to go [when the Chairman realised that time was up]…

This company sincerely needed wholesale new leadership, and it was right that this happened after the Chair departed.

I am pleased for those affected by the latest disturbing outages that they can have faith the company has finally listened. After the experiences they have had it is vital new leadership and a new approach be in place urgently. 

A long handover is not what is needed but swift action and a fresh start is what is needed. I will be watching for what this looks like and will continue holding them to account as you would expect.

My constituents, their businesses and their experiences still need recompense, and we need a clear plan on what might come this summer and beyond.

Water is a precious resource we all need to look after and they need to get back to focusing on delivery, investment and giving real confidence to customers and businesses in my area and beyond.

Disappointed somewhat that this is announced on a day many news outlets will be caught up with a focus on election outcomes. But hey ho…”
