An East Grinstead Conservative councillor is leading the call for help from MPs as West Sussex County Council faces a "tidal wave"of demand for disability and special needs services.
Cllr Jacquie Russell, the county's Cabinet member responsible, called on fellow councillors at last week's Scrutiny Committee to write to their MPs, urging them to attend the drop-in sessions while also writing directly to them herself.
Last year, West Sussex overspent had to add more than £54m of its own funding on the "high needs" portion of its Dedicated Schools Grant which should be covered by government money allocated for education.
Cllr Russell said: "This authority, like many, many across the nation, is trying very hard to deal with a tidal wave of demand with its hands tied behind its backs."
Cllr Russell called the gap between the amount of money councils need for education and what they receive was "an absolute disgrace" and told the meeting that this year's £12-million budget from the government for SEND in the county was "a drop in the ocean".
West Sussex is calling for a review of the funding system and a level playing field, pointing out a disparity in that a London borough gets three-times per child the funding a large shire such as West Sussex receives.
Cllr Russell says that MPs have been directly invited to attend a drop in session at Portcullis House on 1st July by F40, a lobby group for the 40 lowest-funded authorities for Education, which includes West Sussex.
